Born and raised in the humble town of Mount Edgecombe and completing his schooling at Greenbury Secondary School in Phoenix, 26-year-old Deshan Naidoo (pictured) carries forth the cultural passions of his parents, Beama Naidoo and Sushiela Navamoney.

A top north coast Indian devotional musician and singer is not only entertaining large crowds where ever he sings but is also empowering young children with music skills and nurturing their voices to become the best in the music industry.

Born and raised in the humble town of Mount Edgecombe and completing his schooling at Greenbury Secondary School in Phoenix, 26-year-old Deshan Naidoo (pictured) carries forth the cultural passions of his parents, Beama Naidoo and Sushiela Navamoney. Both parents are versatile and talented singers.

His mother, was a vocalist for the great Kalayvani Orchestra and later moved on to sing with Luxmi Entertainers. She is also notably the very first Bharatha Natayam dancer in Mount Edgecombe. Both parents hold much acclaim for their contribution to the arts through music and dance. Drawing his inspiration and passion for music from his parents, Naidoo began his musical career at the tender age of three-years-old, learning to play his first instrument, the tabla under the guidance of the respected late Guru, Gopalan Govender and Ashley Kisten. Music and Deshan have since become inseparable through his exploration of many other different musical instruments.  He plays the keyboard, Harmonium, Gatam, Ganjira, Mrudhangam, Thavil, Dholak, Octopad and jazz drums. His skill, expertise and precision on these instruments have inspired many other musicians and youngsters to pursue their dreams of playing such versatile instruments. Under the guidance of his mother, Naidoo recorded his first song “Aum Woru Naalum ” on CD when he was eight-years-old. He now proudly holds a collection of albums that have been released since 2009. Naidoo has also featured on seven other albums, under other music directors. Fourteen of his albums are devotional albums that have received sensational support.

Speaking to the Phoenix Sun, Naidoo said, “To be a musician is hard work, practice and dedication.  Knowledge is power, so do as much research as you can apart from learning under a tutor, you will learn so much more and will be able to explore different styles of music. Once you reach the level of performing, there’s no turning back music will feed your soul.”  While he enthralls large audiences with his devotional renditions, it is rare to find a singer who can equally perform light multi-lingual film and western music. Naidoo calls the great AR Rahman his music idol, who is currently his greatest inspiration to succeed and learn more about music. In keeping with his thirst for exploring musical possibilities, later this year, Naidoo will be launching his very first western genre RnB/pop album, which is sure to receive worthy praise.

As a performer, he has graced more than 80 different platforms performing to large scale audiences, featured on national and international television. Deshan has had the privilege and honour to locally perform with great  international playback and devotional singers, on their visits to SA, to name a few, TM Soundarajen and P Shushiela , Harini, Unni Menon, K Ragavan, Vijay Flautist, Raju Veeramani, Kanan Veeramani, Pandian, Jayaluxmi, Drummer Sivamani, Pallakad Sreeram, Raja Raja Cholan, Usha Raj. Internationally he has performed with the famous Band Lakshman Sruthi and with playback singers Malthi Lakshman and Suchitra. He has had the privilege of accompanying keyboard Sathya on Ganjira at his house.

Naidoo has received numerous accolades and awards from various companies and organisations from in and around South Africa. His most prized award being the SABC SATMA Award. He has also received international recognition by being awarded by a Chennai based band “Lakshman Sruthi” for music contribution in South Africa. He has produced over 20 students who are currently performing in the South African music industry.

The band is proudly a youth band, termed in a catch phrase as “Kznz Finest” and is bursting with insatiable talent. They have adorned many functions and have left their audiences in awe by their reverting performances. Deshan prides himself in releasing the following band albums: Blissful Melodies (Collection of Tamil and Hindi Films songs) 2013, Awesome Rhythms (Collection of Tamil and Hindi Films songs) 2015, Live in Concert Show DVD -2016. Deshan has a special message for the youth out there “Shoot for the moon because even if you miss you land among the stars”

Naidoo’s dynamic and stylish approach to the magic of music, has earned him the affectionate fan name “Deshan Styler Naidoo”, because of his appeal to the younger generation. Inspired by his affectionate title of Deshan Styler Naidoo, he also is the owner and producer of his own record label “Styler Music Production.”
